Age & Opportunity, in association with Pavee Point Traveller & Roma Centre is delighted to announce that the Award for an Older Traveller Artist 2026 is now open.
This is the second year of the award which aims to highlight the often-undervalued contribution of contemporary Traveller culture, particularly within mainstream Irish society and to recognise and support the everyday creativity of older artists and makers within the Traveller community.
Last year’s recipient of the award, Jerry O’Connor, said:
“This award has helped bring a bit closer my ambition to record my work. Overall it has given me confidence and the encouragement I have received has been very positive.”

Applications can be made via video, voice message or application form by 23rd July.
For the purposes of this award, an older Traveller artist is defined as someone who is over 40 years of age and who is recognised in their community as contributing to Traveller creative culture.

How to Apply
To apply, you must:

Identify as Irish Traveller or of Traveller heritage

Be based in the Republic of Ireland

Be involved in a regular creative or artistic practice
