Age & Opportunity and the RHA presents ‘Getting going and keeping going’

Getting going and keeping going is a professional development event which aims to provide inspiration, pathways and mentoring supports for artists wishing to emerge and sustain an art practice in later life. The day will be divided into two parts and starts with a morning session featuring artists Karen Ebbs and Anita Groener in conversation, followed by an afternoon mentoring session, both of which must be separately booked.
Discussion: 11.30am – 1.00pm
This discussion, chaired by Catherine Marshall, invites emerging and experienced artists Karen Ebbs and Anita Groener respectively, to look at the challenges, models and tools to develop and sustain a practice in later life and explore how to stay motivated and connected in the second part of your career.

Mentoring: 1.30pm – 3.30pm
The afternoon will provide 30 minute mentoring opportunities for small groups of artists led by Karen Ebbs and Anita Groener. There are 9 places available to book for each artist (18 in total) and places will be reserved on a first come first served basis. Artists should bring a laptop with some examples of their work which they can present at their allocated mentoring session for a maximum of 3 mins.

Artists booking mentoring slots are encouraged to attend and book a place at the discussion. To ensure a place at the discussion mentees must book by Friday 18th October.
Artist Biographies:
Anita Groener
Born in the Netherlands and based in Dublin, Anita Groener is an established artist who exhibits her drawings, installations, films, and animations internationally. In 2005, she was elected a member of Aosdána; until 2014, she was a professor at TU Dublin and served as the Head of Fine Art from 2004 to 2006. Collections include The Irish Museum of Modern Art; The Arts Council, Ireland; the State Art Collection, Ireland; 21cMuseum Hotels, US: The European Investment Bank, VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam and many private collections.
Karen Ebbs
Karen Ebbs is an Irish painter working from her studio at Pallas Studios, Dublin. She holds an MA in Fine Art painting from NCAD (2023) and was shortlisted for the 2023 RDS Visual Arts Awards. Upcoming solo exhibitions include Rathfarnham Castle in November and the Municipal Lexicon Gallery in 2025. Her work has been featured by Gemma Tipton in the Irish Times and exhibited at Farmleigh Cowshed Gallery and the Lab Gallery in 2022. She co-curated a group show at The Lab Gallery and received the Agility Award and DLR Co. Co. development award in 2022. Ebbs’ work focuses on the impact of interconnection and perception through layered oil paintings, drawing from mid-twentieth century North American painting and the 1960s Light & Space Movement. She is an alumna of the RHA School and NCAD, with memberships in the VAI and DLRCOCO.
