Since the late 1970s, Billy McGrath has been a pioneering force across Ireland’s cultural and media sectors, creating live music and comedy events, performing solo comedy shows, and managing PR for major Irish and visiting artists. In the 1980s, he moved into television production with RTÉ, Channel 4, and Windmill Lane, directing documentary projects with U2, David Bowie, Clannad, The Pogues, and the Irish soccer team qualifying for Italia ’90. In the 1990s, he created The Liffey Laugh—Ireland’s first comedy festival; co-managed comedian Sean Hughes; and was appointed to senior production and commissioning roles in both TV3 and RTÉ. In 2004, he established Sideline Productions, producing content for radio, digital, and screen. During Covid, he gained a 1^st Class Honours degree in Screenwriting and returned to the stage in 2022 with his one-man show GUSTO. His recent films include Citizens of Boomtown (Rats) and Ballroom Blitz with Adam Clayton.
