Bealtaine: TOUCHABLE Gallery Tour
Monday 16th May, 1pm
Director of Ballina Arts Centre Sean Walsh will give a guided tour of TOUCHABLE, an exhibition by Caren van Herwaarden.
Caren van Herwaarden makes watercolors, drawings, collages and sculptures. In her work she is looking for the meaning of fellow – humanity, physicality, suffering and eroticism. This leads to works that find strength in vulnerability, softness in mercilessness and comfort in dejection.
Human or horse: she is concerned with the naked being, without facade or embellishment. In conflict situations where there is no control and the world is no longer socially engineered, we are dependent on others. In the tangle of people and horses, in which individuality seems to be subordinate, lies the desire for intimacy and cohesion as a driving force.
Presented as part of Age & Opportunity’s Bealtaine Festival – Ireland’s national celebration of the arts and creativity as we age. Admission: free, but booking is essential.
