Event Description
Creating textiles has always been at the heart of Irish culture. The wool trade and weaving go back to ancient times, the Liberties, where the Hyatt hotel is based, was once our historic textile hub. Linen, lacemaking and the Aran knit once threw a lifeline to rural communities. Today, artisan textiles continue through the generations in an unbroken thread. Our wonderful crafts continue to inspire and give depth to our lives.
Through the medium of a slideshow, Vawn will take you on a journey through our textile roots. All are welcome to this entertaining event exploring Ireland’s textile heritage and contemporary scene. This will also include examples of Irish textiles to touch and admire.
Do you have a vintage or heirloom piece? Email vawncorrigan@gmail.com with details or just bring it along for the show-and-tell.
Vawn Corrigan is the author of many historic, craft and textile articles and her two heritage books, Irish Aran and Irish Tweed, are both available from The O’Brien Press.
