‘Roots’ is an exhibition by artist Catherine Fanning and is a small collection of mixed media artwork that was inspired by the artists finds in John Sirr’s Antique curiosity store. The store is full of wonderful unusual items, curios and quirky treasures. All pre loved items that come with their own life story and history.
The old kitchen jug that has seen many family teatimes.
The floral milk-jug vase that has held the wildflowers of many Irish summers.
The little tea cup that was too fine for little fingers so was packed away, out of reach of harm’s way.
The wedding present cutlery set that spent its life gathering dust in the display cabinet, too good to be used, has now found its way to a little store on Saint Patrick’s St Boyle.
All the stores bits and pieces come with a lifetime of memory, stories and history. The artwork gives a new life story to the items found by the artist.
As part of the exhibition artist and writer Crona Gallagher, has written a poem inspired by the artwork and her finds within the little Antique Store.
The exhibition was only made possible through the support of Roscommon County Council and John Sirr Antique Store. Developed through a Slow Art Bursary 2022 from Roscommon County Council Arts Office.
