Rekindle: Festival of Lost Skills is taking place on Sunday 14th of May between 12pm – 5pm on Parliament Street Ennistymon.
Rekindle is all about rekindling and celebrating skills of the past, passed down generation to generation, the skills which taught how to use what you had in your vicinity to create what you need when you need it. These practical skills were once common and now due to our modern day expectations of buying instead of building, we have sadly lost these skills.
We ask – as well as the skills, have we lost anything else from this time of self reliance and all round knowhow?
By searching high and low for bastions of traditional crafts, Rekindle Festival has brought together an incredible line up of older master makers in areas ranging from blacksmithing, weaving, basket making, water divination, storytelling, traditional music playing and much much more. Our Rekindlers will display and share their skills at The Courthouse Gallery as well as in our partner venues – Salmon Books and Stack Weavers. Byrne’s Violin Shop and Gallery will also be open for visitors to experience a fully restored traditional shop.
In addition to our Rekindlers demonstrating their skills, we are excited to announce that we will have a market at this years festival featuring businesses making products by hand and with traditional methods!
The event is free to attend but we kindle ask you to register for a ticket so we can predict numbers!
Full programme and further details posted in the coming weeks, if you’re register for a ticket you will receive an email with the full event programme and map the week of the festival.
Kindest thanks to the Community Foundation Ireland, the Arts Council and Clare County Council.
