Biography

LITTLE JOHN NEE is a writer and theatre-maker whose original works have been a distinctive presence in Irish theatre for more than four decades, developing a prolific repertoire of solo shows and collaborations. His stage successes defies genre and dances between worlds; – blending clown, lyrical monologue, original song, and simmering anarchy into something unmistakably his own—rooted in tradition but wildly imaginative.
Elected to Aosdána in 2016, Little John Nee, based in the west of Ireland, has toured widely and his creative projects has been adapted for radio, film and publication, including A Donegal Trilogy (An Grianán Theatre, 2011). His acclaimed plays include The Derry Boat (Helen Hayes Award nomination, Washington DC), The Mental, Johnny Patterson the Singing Irish Clown, Sparkplug (Irish Times Theatre Award, Prix Italia Special Mention), Radio Rosario, Tea Dance, Nettle Horse (2024), Zeitgeist Jukebox (2025) and the “The Art of Gentle Punk” (2026).
