Event Description:
Before Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, his mother, Sligo native Charlotte Thornley, survived the horrific cholera epidemic of 1832. Her real-life accounts of the town’s lockdown, mysterious illnesses, and stories of the “undead” directly inspired the world’s most famous vampire.
This May, the Cultural Companions are bringing Sligo’s darkest hour vividly back to life. Expect morbid humour, fascinating local lore, and the true origin story behind a gothic legend in this “Horrible Histories” style dark comedy.
