As part of the Bealtaine Festival 2023, the Activity Therapists of Highfield Healthcare collaborated with esteemed Irish Artist Claire Halpin, using the concept of “People and Place” to facilitate a series of Azure Art Workshops for residents of our Alzheimer’s Care Centre Nursing Homes during the month of April.
The Azure Method focuses on facilitating meaningful, person-centred engagement with cultural and art-based activities, specifically for individuals living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
For our residents, it meant an opportunity to participate creatively, optimizing present-moment awareness in tandem with reminiscence through actively looking at and speaking about art images and then responding through sensorial interaction with the art materials.
For our Activity Therapists, the collaboration provided an opportunity to pick up new techniques on how to optimize creative engagement for their residents through specific presentation and interaction with art images and materials.
“Down Memory Lane” will be a celebration of creativity across the lifespan which will showcase the residents’ original artworks completed during the workshop series.
