‘An Open Door’ for Bealtaine, is an informal musical gathering, that is being organised by 49 North Street, in association with the Skibbereen Family and Resource Centre and MusicAlive.
The guest artist will be the well- known singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Ger Wolfe; who has been “creating carefully crafted vignettes of song” (Irish Times) for many years.
Ger has been leading bilingual music sessions at 49 North Street, over the past year as part of the ‘Fite Fuaite’ pop up Gaeltacht and this event, will also feature songs in English and Irish. Ger comments:
‘I love working with music and I have always enjoyed especially working with people who have been around longer than myself with more experience of song and in particular the older ballads and ways of celebrating daily life through the joy of singing. When the song comes with a story attached it always makes sense of the tradition of singing and how ultimately it is about relating to one another as people, each with our own story’
His own compositions, such as ‘The Curra Road’, ‘The Lark of Mayfield’, ‘Summer at my feet’ and ‘In the Garden of Heaven’ have received national airplay and have been covered also by artists like Muireann nic Amhlaíobh, Karan Casey, Sharon Shannon and Zoe Conway.
Ger will also be joined, by other local musicians, for this event, which takes place at the Family Resource Centre, North Street, Marsh, Skibbereen on Friday 20 May at 11am.
The event is free of charge and all are welcome. It’s free! No need to book in advance, just turn up, engage & enjoy!
