Autumn Fête
The Autumn Fête will bring together activities for young and old to enjoy. Activities from lawn croquet to face painting are all shared in our unique heritage site.

We have an Open Day on Friday which will attract the early start booley walkers to the late night ceili goers, giving many an opportunity to experience our living heritage. There will be an opportunity to taste homemade bread, country butter with jams throughout the day and there will be plenty to see all day including old photos and more recent photos of our stone heritage by Derek Watters taken from last years Stone Heritage Project Survey of the Cooley Mountains.
Mullaghbuoy Community Centre will be open for exhibition setup from 10am so come a little early if requiring your own table to display any peices. From 10.30am we have a series of demonstrations and talks happening with the support of local community including all who attend on the day young and old.
10.30am Jennette will explain a little about basket making. The workshop is on all day so you can see the baskets evolve.
11am. Anne & Concepta will talk about making bread butter & Jam as well as demonstrations of the stages of bread & butter making.
12.45 Aine will finish the first half with a short talk about how our lifestyles have changed over the years impacting our health.
1pm local musicians will play a few tunes giving any dancers an opportunity to warm up for the evening session.
2pm In the afternoon we would love to hear about any oral history around memories or dialect related to “Booleying” facilitated by Seamus Murphy a local historian who will talk about The Mountains of Cooley filim where he describes them as booley huts while local farmers refer to them as stone maries for sheep.
If you have anything that represents traditional living heritage please consider displaying on the day. Bring it along and share for a while with no commitment to stay the whole day.
NB Theres a “long walk home” (to Mullaghbuoy a Booleying themed 9km walk) led by Derek Watters. Registration at 9am at Mullaghbouy and transport to starting point soon after on return walkers will experience exhibition, entertainment & hospitality a “Hooley Booley Cooley” at 1pm with a bigger Hooley at the Mullaghbuoy Ceili Dance at 7.30pm. Ceili Band Starts at 8pm.
