The ‘Electric Irish Homes Textile Project’ is a collaboration between Sligo-based artist Anna Spearman and a group of women exploring and responding to the themes of the 'Kitchen Power: Women's experiences of rural electrification' exhibition. The women’s artworks will form an integral part of the ‘Kitchen Power’ exhibition which opens in the Museum of Country Life on 11th July 2019. The exhibition looks at the huge impact of rural electrification on Irish housewives and their homes during the 1950s and 1960s. This is a partnership between the Museum, Dr. Sorcha O’Brien, Kingston University, and Age & Opportunity. It is funded by the UK Arts & Humanities Research Council. To mark the 2019 Bealtaine Festival, the Museum of Country Life invites you to a special event on 30th May to celebrate creativity in older age. This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the ‘Electric Irish Homes Textile Project’ and to meet all those involved. You can also see a short documentary video highlighting the participants’ journey. Not to be missed!
