The Bealtaine Festival, working with Age & Opportunity’s Azure and Creative Exchanges Programme, and in association with the Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT), has developed an artists residency within a care setting that specializes in caring for older people with dementia. Visual Artist Joanna Hopkins is the inaugural recipient of this residency. The care home setting is Orchard Day Care Centre in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. Joanna will engage with the residents of Orchard Day Care Centre from end August til end December 2017. Central to Joanna’s interest is the function and importance of the garden at Orchard Day Care Centre. Working with visitors and staff at the Centre, Joanna will be creating sensory audio artworks using garden plants.
